Rockpanel was specified for the external façades of two pioneering residential Passivhaus developments in Trethomas and Trecenydd, South Wales, UK.

The eighteen ultra energy-efficient Passivhaus homes are Caerphilly County Borough Council’s (CCBC) first new housing development in nearly two decades. They form the initial phase of the council’s major housebuilding programme, which aims to deliver 400 affordable homes in the coming years.

In 2019 CCBC declared a climate emergency and committed to becoming carbon-neutral by 2030. With that intention in mind and the impact of soaring energy prices on household finances, it is no wonder the council chose the Passivhaus approach, which could result in heating for each home costing as little as £1 per day. CCBC Cabinet Member for Housing, Shayne Cook, “We want to offer our customers homes they can afford to live in and provide the best value for council taxpayers… Passivhaus means we can do just that.”
