A façade that maintains its well-kept appearance for years without requiring intensive upkeep is a key consideration for many construction projects. With Rockpanel Woods, a façade retains the warm appearance of wood while benefiting from a material that holds its shape and does not require repainting.
The cladding features a tactile wood grain that closely resembles real timber. Whether it’s Oak, Fraké, Padouk, or Bamboo, Rockpanel Woods offers a design to suit every need. It also benefits from the properties of stone: remaining stable despite temperature fluctuations, colourfast and durable.
Long-lasting colour and protection
All Rockpanel Woods designs are coated with a water-based finish that protects the panels from weathering and UV radiation ensuring the façade retains its colour and appearance for years to come.
Clean and low-maintenance
The ProtectPlus coating safeguards Rockpanel against dirt and graffiti. Rainwater naturally cleans the façade, meaning additional maintenance and cleaning is rarely needed. If graffiti does appear, it can be easily removed thanks to the protective coating.
Less maintenance than timber
Timber cladding offers numerous advantages: its natural, warm appearance, recyclability, good insulating properties, and availability in various timber species. However, timber requires maintenance, which can vary depending on the treatment used. In general, timber cladding demands more upkeep than many other cladding types.
Timber is vulnerable to moisture, mould and rot, and may discolour, warp or crack over time. It typically needs repainting or treatment every four to seven years and is more prone to dirt accumulation in certain environments.
In contrast, Rockpanel is made from basalt, a volcanic rock, which ensures the material retains its shape even under temperature fluctuations. The boards maintain both their appearance and performance over the long term. The intended working life of Rockpanel Woods is 50 years, as documented in ETAs.
Since repainting or replacement is not necessary with Rockpanel, maintenance costs remain relatively low throughout the building’s lifespan.
Lower maintenance costs
When selecting cladding, the initial purchase price is only part of the equation. Maintenance, renovation, and replacement costs also play a crucial role in determining the overall material costs over the entire lifespan of a building. This is often referred to as the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
Materials with a long lifespan and low maintenance requirements result in reduced overall costs. As Rockpanel is durable and low-maintenance, with an intended working life of 50 years, the total costs over the lifetime of a building are kept to a minimum.
For projects where the appearance of wood is desired, but maintenance and lifespan are key factors, Rockpanel Woods offers an alternative that combines aesthetics with practical performance.
